Team Mobay Racing wins class championship at Dover
Team Mobay Racing registered yet another milestone in Jamaican racing history when Gary Williams secured the overall Jamaica Race Driver’s Club Circuit Racing championship. The team has displayed their depth of talent, level of preparation and consistent race results by winning the title for the last three years with three different drivers. Team leader Douglas “Hollywood” Gore had won the championship in 2006, followed by Guy Fraser in 2007, while Gore went on to cop the Caribbean Circuit racing Championship that year. Relative newcomer Gary Williams, in only his second year of racing at Dover, took the top prize for 2008 with a total of 53.8 points.

Driving his Slowboy Racing/Amsoil/Motor Sales & Service Ltd Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6 ½ which he bought from former champion David Summerbell at the end of 2007, Williams steadily carved out consistent race results over the 4 event championship after the Team Mobay racing technicians painstakingly went through the car from bumper to bumper, restoring the car to race ready status that would afford Williams the consistency he needed to challenge for the title. He borrowed his old Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution II for the final race of the season, as the Evo 6 ½ was still off the island due to it’s participation in the Caribbean Circuit Racing championship events in Barbados and Guyana.

At the Heroes of Speed race meet on October 20 that capped the 2008 season, Williams emerged with a 1st & 2nd place in the two races of the Improved Production 27 category on his way to 2nd place in that championship, while he won the Thundersport championship based on results of the three previous meets.
Team mate Douglas Gore would not be completely outshone – driving his new Motor Sales & Service Ltd/Sherwin Williams Paints/Amsoil/Sunoco Race Fuels/Slam Condoms Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X for the first time at Dover, he copped the Modified Production 3 (MP 3) championship with 28.4 points, with David Summerbell and Peter Rae in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. On Monday he won both MP 3 races to continue the western team’s dominance in the circuit racing discipline.

Guy Fraser, 2007 overall driver’s champion, placed 3rd in the Improved Production 27 category for 2008, affording Team Mobay Racing two positions on the podium for that championship.
