Welcome to J.R.D.C.

The Jamaica Race Drivers Club was formed in 2003 to organize and promote motor racing, primarily at the Dover Raceway located just north of Brown’s Town St.Ann. The Club has an active membership of approximately 30 racers, led by an executive body comprised of 12 members. Events are held primarily on holiday weekends typically: Easter Monday; Labour Day; Independence Day and Heroes Day. These events are usually single day events and typically draw about 50 competitors and an attendance of between 4,000 to 6,000 spectators.

The principal executive members of the club are the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

President
The club’s current president is certainly no stranger to motor racing. Hilary Jardine has been involved at various levels in motorsport for over 50 years. Guyanese by birth, Mr Jardine has been a naturalized Jamaican since the early 70’s and has promoted racing at Vernham Field and Dover for many years. As president of the JRDC for the last two years, he is the driving force behind the revival of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship.

Acting in the position of Vice President, Marck Carey is both an organizer and competitor. As Vice President for the last 4 years, he has contributed to the raising of the standard of organization of the events, bringing in new sponsorship, and still finding time to campaign one of the fastest cars to race at Dover.

Secretary

David Summerbell Jr, one of the most recognized names in racing, adds to his talents organizing the secretarial duties of the club. Without David the many phone calls, letters and various arrangements needed to put on race meets, could not be made. David multi-tasks all these challenges, and races at every event.

Treasurer

A newcomer to the JRDC, Raymond Webb handles the clubs’ fiduciary affairs. Raymond keeps the club financially solvent, pays all the bills, follows up all the sponsorship arrangements, and performs the difficult task of timing and scoring at Dover Raceway.

The Club improved the physical infrastructure at the track, including but not limited to:
  • The erection of a new pedestrian bridge at the spectator entrance.
  • The renovation of the current pedestrian bridge on the front straight.
  • The improvement of the track access road.

The prize monies paid to winners in our events has also been raised and has increased the quality and quantity of the competitor entries. The JRDC plans to continue the innovations debuted in 2006 with respect to Race Driving schools held at the Track to encourage and develop nascent competitors in a safe and organized manner.

The JRDC would also like to increase our partnerships with corporate Jamaica, as we see many mutually beneficial linkages which exploit the rapidly growing subculture of automobile racing, both locally and internationally.
